How butterflies disprove millions-of-years creation theory

Million years creation theory has been prevalent as an after effect of the Theory of Evolution. This theory states that the creation days in Genesis 1 are not really literal days but “millions of years” instead. This also gave a hard time to some Bible believers to balance the so-called “scientific claims” of scientists who support Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and the claims of the Bible. At first glance, it seemed that the Bible and Science conflicted against each other.

1 Day = thousand years in 2 Peter

Bible believers have been also pushed to lean on “Million Years Theory” which leads them not to interpret the  words of the Bible as to how it was plainly written there. This leads to giving another meaning to the literal “day” into thousands of years. They also support this by citing 2 Peter 3:8 which says, “beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

In the past, this theory has shaken the very foundations of the Christian faith and many theologians like Scofield have supported Gap theory because of the weak apologetic support with this topic. It may still confuse many people, and lead them into an unsure foundation. But in the years that came, Bible scholars and scientists have found out many findings that disprove Gap Theory. In this article, we will look at how the absence of butterflies and other pollinating agents in the third day affected the life in the plant kingdom. I call it the “Absence of Pollinators Evidence.” If thousand years theory is true, then it would take a thousand years for the plants before they had pollination.

Plant pollination and insects

In Genesis, the Mighty Creator made the plants and trees in the third day (Genesis 1:11). He made sure that every green living thing would yield its seed of its kind. In order for a plant to conceive, the most effective way that flowers can do this is through pollination.

Plant pollination needs insects in order for the pollen grains to spread to other flowers. Since insects such as butterflies and bees are needed to pollinate, we can assume that they are still not existing in the third day. By this support, we can defend that the thousand year theory is far possible. Hence, it would be impossible for plants and flowers to maintain life without its pollinating agents. It would be most likely that the literal day theory is very near to the accounts of Genesis.

Are insects included in the 5th day?

Another thing that should be taken into consideration is whether insects such as butterflies and bees were created either in the 5th day or the 6th day. In the 5th day (Genesis 1:20),

God said, “Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.” Note that it says that, “every winged fowl that fly above the earth…”

The essential question would be, “Are the insects included in the 5th day consideration?.” Considering the description of Genesis 1:20, it is most likely that butterflies and bees are included in the “winged fowl.”

If we would examine the Hebrew word for “fowl”,  it is the word “ofe” which could mean “bird, anything that flies, or covered with wings”. By implication, we can draw out an insight here that insects may belong to this category of description. Hence, it would make the Creation account of Genesis as insufficient if it would be prolific to include every detail of species, genres, or classes of animals.

2 Million years of pollinators’ absence?

If this is taken into consideration, the possible result would be that the Thousand-year Theory or shall we say, the Million-year Theory would take away 2,000 or 2 Million years of absence of pollinators, and would seriously imbalance the plant system. Thus, plant kingdom would not survive for such a long period of time.

One thing that would also be considered is that the possible day that insects were created may be the sixth day, since butterflies and insects can also be classified as “creeping thing” when Genesis 1:25 says, “And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”

If insects will be classified as sixth-day creatures, then it would double the thousand years, making it 2,000 years or more, or if millions of years, it would take 2 million years or more. The absence of pollinators for this very long period of time would literally make the plants impossible to propagate after its kind. The word “creepeth” in this verse is “rehmes” which could mean “reptile” or a “rapidly moving animal…” This description from the original Hebrew could still be applied to insects such as bees and butterflies.

Considering other pollinators

One possible objection from those who find a glitch in this defense is that “well, plants can still survive for thousands of years without the butterflies and other pollinators, such as wind and crawlings roots”. This may be taken as a good point, but nowhere it is found in the system of plants that any would survive for thousands of years or millions of years without the presence of their agent pollinators.

By now, creation in six literal days is still in its undisputed position. What are your thoughts? What scientific proofs you could think that would prove that the six-day creation is a literal 24-hour day? Share in the comments below.
