A way to a happy, productive and healthy life is getting enough rest and sleep.
The world of science and business, as this Entrepreneur article says, is beginning to rediscover the value of Biblical Law once again. It states:
Sacrificing sleep may seem to make sense, considering that entrepreneurs’ to-do lists are often lengthy and their time limited, as they try to scale their businesses for the future. However, sleep loss actually isn’t a productive way to be more successful; in fact it dilutes entrepreneurs’ ability to perform during the work day.
This message is beginning to get through. Now that prominent business leaders like Jeff Bezos and Arianna Huffington have begun advocating for a healthy amount of sleep, the sleep-deprived entrepreneur will hopefully become a thing of the past.
Sleep-deprivation could have been a shiny identity of the past for successful people, but it’s certainly the case. Lack of sleep has significant difference from wise rest management. Rest and sleep is good for our personal lives, and is also good for the rest of the world.
As we are now in the age of digital technology, one of the biggest problems that arise is the lack of sleep. Fatigue and weariness mark those who are wired in their technology whether due to work or leisure. But in this age, the ancient commandment is still very relevant.
“Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work—neither you, your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country. In six days I, the LORD, made the earth, the sky, the seas, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That is why I, the LORD, blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.
Here are significant truths that highlight the great value of rest, how this mindset upholds the sovereignty of God and leads to the prosperity and happiness of man.
1. Rest gives us the idea that we trust God, not our own hard work.
When man observes the Sabbath, or sets aside a time to rest, he is saying to himself, to the worlds, and to God, that he is the god of his success and future- God is. He tells to the worlds that God is right, and that obeying God is the best way we can follow.
Overworking leads us to failure, because trusting ourselves is never a good thing to pursue. This attitude also molds the minds of your children. They will have an impression that they are not as important as your work. They may hear you say differently, but what they see is more powerful.
This will also have a message to your family and friends. Unbalanced allocation of time to work gives the impression to people that work is more important than relationships. Where in fact, the very reason we work is supposed to be for the people in our lives.
2. The refusal to observe Rest and Sabbath is an indication that one is following a certain god or idol.
“Man is incurably religious,” a preacher named John Mac Arthur says. It can never be erased in our genes that we are submitting to someone or something. When we deny rest and Sabbath, we are certainly following another god in our hearts, and that this idol is whom we serve.
Observing the Sabbath is recognizing that God owns everything. The denial of it is idolatry. Those who worship idols work during the Sabbath day, and don’t depravity ruled in their hearts instead.
“If you treat the Sabbath as sacred and do not pursue your own interests on that day; if you value my holy day and honor it by not traveling, working, or talking idly on that day, then you will find the joy that comes from serving me. I will make you honored all over the world, and you will enjoy the land I gave to your ancestor, Jacob. I, the LORD, have spoken.” –Isaiah 58:12-13
3. Without rest and Sabbath, your land will be the land of your enemies.
God warned His people that denying rest to their lives will cause Him to exile them to their enemies’ land so that the land will have rest and prosperity. The point the Creator wants to make is: Without rest, there is no prosperity.
Because of disobedience, the people were captured by pagan cultures.
But they made fun of God’s messengers, ignoring his words and laughing at his prophets, until at last the LORD’s anger against his people was so great that there was no escape. So the LORD brought the king of Babylonia to attack them.
The king killed the young men of Judah even in the Temple. He had no mercy on anyone, young or old, man or woman, sick or healthy. God handed them all over to him. The king of Babylonia looted the Temple, the Temple treasury, and the wealth of the king and his officials, and took everything back to Babylon. He burned down the Temple and the city, with all its palaces and its wealth, and broke down the city wall.
He took all the survivors to Babylonia, where they served him and his descendants as slaves until the rise of the Persian Empire. And so what the LORD had foretold through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: “The land will lie desolate for seventy years, to make up for the Sabbath rest that has not been observed.”
2 Chronicles 36:16-21
In the same way, when God’s people fail to observe Sabbath today, the land will be occupied by humanists and pagan powers. The land will then utterly fall into ruin. Rest is very necessary.
4.) The importance of rest is backed-up by faithful scientific research.
True science will always agree with the Word of God because the author of the two are One. The National Sleep Foundation has recommendations on how much sleep we should get so they can be truly rested.
Successful entrepreneurs and businessmen are people of good rest. Here’s Ariannia Huffington explaining why you don’t have to deprive yourself of sleep in order to succeed. Her blog-news site highlighted that lack of sleep causes more losses. One article notes, Bosses can get mean and workers less productive when they don’t get a good night’s sleep.
So, get enough sleep and observe holy day-off. This is the recipe to good life and prosperity. Sleep your way to success.
