Support Your Calling with your Job

TEXT: Noah’s Account (Genesis 6:9-8:19)

The world was saved because of Noah. It’s because He followed His calling: preserve life on earth.
We do not know what was his occupation. Where did he get money to buy food to eat everyday and money to buy materials for the ark? If he had no job, he could have not built the ark. It is non-sense to think that he was just able to cut trees and build the ark without a source of income.

The Bible is silent about his occupation- maybe he was an employee, or had a farm or a business. But we are sure he used his income to build the ark. It is obvious that his job was not worth writing. He must have earned in order to support his life’s purpose. His job is subordinate to his calling. Both were God-given tasks. To think his job is secular and his calling religious is a failure to see the point.

Calling will give meaning to your existence. But like building an ark, your calling may not sustain your daily life. Job buys food and brings money. Calling is why you are here.

Calling will serve and will save the world. Calling is from God. Your calling could be your job. You may get your salary by doing your calling. But most of the times, you have to support your calling with your job- just like Noah.
