What are you building?

Every man is a builder. Every move that he makes, contributes to something bigger than himself. As time goes by, man cannot stop his life from being a part of something. Whether he likes it or not, his life flows towards another.

As long as there is life, there will always be a “receiver” of our “possessions.” Those “possessions” could be anything that we can ever think in us. What is it in your hand? That is your possessions. Your possessions is a huge list which includes  your time, energy, soul, might, focus, attention, money, concern, love, passion, words, wisdom, learnings, skills, knowledge etc., etc., and the list goes on and on.

These are the very things that you possess as an image-bearer of God, but they are only lent to you in a period of time. You own something because it was given to you, you possess something, you have received something, and most of them are not financial nor material things.

On the other hand, that “receiver” will always be which you build throughout your lifetime. It could be your company, your client, your boss, your family, your friend, your book on the process, your church, your business, your work, your reputation, etc.

Accept it or not, your life builds something. Your life speaks of something. Your actions speak. Your looks speak. Your deeds speak. Your passions, directions and work. In other words, you are building a “name.”

Why is this so? because building something is in the very essence of the man’s nature. It is your God-given calling. It is your lofty duty. This nature is established by God Himself since the very beginning.

As man’s creation was also “according to His own image,” so then man continues to echo the very same tenets that the Creator possesses, and this includes his nature to build. God commanded the man to “be fruitful, to increase, to subdue the earth…,” That’s why even until now, this voice never ceases in the inner recessess of your heart.

But because of the fall, man’s calling to build was also corrupted in a terrible way. Since the time that sin came, man only builds things that lead to his own destruction. Your actions lead to death, your progressing is leading you to the fangs of death and your way leads to utter darkness and gnashing of teeth. But thanks be to God, because through Christ, you can be restored to your wonderful calling again. You are no longer seeking, loving and building only for your selfish and prideful “name,” but your heart beats for the building of Christ’s name- alone.

Hallelujah! What a marvelous sight. Start building for Christ’s Name, and you are fulfilling your purpose. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God…and all these things shall be added unto you.” Yes, all things. And “all things will be added to you.” Surely joy is one of them, and also peace, love, eternal life, satisfaction, comfort, goodness, forgiveness, and zillions more! Most of all, in Christ, you meet God. You desire God. God was added to you, as you were added as one of the people of God.

Whether you like it or not, you are building something, you are advocating something. In whatever you do, your life builds a name, and that name has to be something that other people can link to you. You are a builder. You have a calling. What are you building?
