What happens after we die?

you're shaking with guilt

It is easier for people to think that since no one has gone dead and came back to tell us what happened, there would be no such way to know what happens after we die.

Or, people assume that heaven will be for sure for them on some basis that they would claim. But here is a verse that makes the answer very simple for us: Hebrews 9:27

“It is appointed unto man once to die, and after this, the judgment.”

So what happens after we die? Judgment. Every person on this planet will stand before the tribunal of the Great Judge. It is the accounting of all your works, the revealing of everything, the exposing of the hidden to the light.

What does judgment mean then? Is it heaven or hell? One thing, if we had committed one sin, that’s already enough to make us guilty. One sin? Guilty? Yes. “For whoever keeps the whole law and stumbles in one point, he is guilty of all.” James 2:10.

Guilty is the term. One sin is equal to disqualification. What is sin then? It is to disobey the law of God, to hurt God. Is lying a sin? yes. What else? Lustful thought, envy, cheating, pirating, gossiping and so much more. As this list keeps on and on, it should make us feel more and more guilty of ourselves also.

It is a blessed thing for any person to feel the guilt and see his real situation. Why? It is then because that’s a Great Power to make us run towards Christ. To feel the terrors of the law, to picture out the terrible wrath to come and the unimaginable torment that has been revealed to us, cannot help but to make us run towards the only Savior.

Jesus alone is the only qualified Person to be man’s Savior. In him alone you can survive, you can be satisfied. In Christ alone you can stand before God and not be guilty, in Christ you will be acquitted, in Him you will be set free. “There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1. In Christ, you will have “peace with God.” We who were once against Him, rebelling, opposing, attacking, disobeying, can receive peace, True Peace, in Christ- because He is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 6:9).

Talking about this may make us unpopular, or termed as close-minded, dogmatic or religious fanatic, but it’s a serious thing when man does not believe its message. His “Word is truth” and the universe with everything in it will pass away, but His Word will not.

Better to take heed now than to regret later. Better to run to the Savior and lovingly embrace Him now. Better to flee from the wrath to come, rather to stand on that tribunal and unknowingly be subject to the Consuming Fire. Better not to assume that “I am going to be okay” but all of a sudden, the judge will throw the word that will damn forever – “GUILTY.”
